Atlanta has become one of the largest data center markets in the Southeast. Equipment arrives through the Port of Savannah on I-16 and I-75, or by road from the Carolinas and Tennessee.
A hyperscale campus takes dozens of loads that do not fit a standard trailer: substation transformers at 100,000 to 400,000 lbs, backup generators at 12 to 14 ft high on the skid, switchgear and power modules that are legal-weight but over-width, and chillers and cooling towers that are wide and tall. Every one of them needs a permit in each state it crosses, and most need pilot cars. The permit is the small part; the escorts, route surveys and the specialized truck are where the cost sits.
